Anthony Lister is a prominent graffiti artist and one of the pioneers of contemporary street art and stenciling in Australia. In his figurative work, His scrawling, figurative style employs charcoal, acrylic, spray paint, and oil. Lister depicts subjects like comic book heroes, villains, and other low-brow pop culture references in a crudely drawn style with vivid pops of colour that show the gestural influence of his mentor Max Gimblett.
Lister’s paintings and installations have been shown internationally, and his works are in notable private and public collections such as the National Gallery of Australia and Art Bank Australia. His exhibitions include those held at the Urban Spree Gallery in Berlin, Robert Fontaine Gallery in Miami, Allouche Gallery in New York, Olsen Gallery in Sydney and Black Art Projects in Melbourne.
