Does money go back to the Artist?
The short answer is Yes. We purchase all of our artworks in full and we do not take artwork on consignment or commission. This also means that Artists are unaffected financially by any sale prices we may put in place. We also subscribe to paying royalties to the Artists under the Resale Royalty Scheme.
The Resale Royalty Scheme came into effect on 9 June 2010. The Scheme requires us to pay a royalty to the Copyright Agency Limited when Australian Artworks are sold or re-sold. Copyright Agency Limited is then responsible for distributing the royalty to the Artist or their heirs. Commercial resales of artworks for $1,000 or more must be reported and the royalty is calculated as 5% of the sale price. The Scheme only applies to artworks acquired after 9 June 2010.
For paintings displayed on our website, we have factored the royalty into the sale price to ensure that the listed sale price is ultimately the price you will pay for the artwork. We then pay the royalty to Copyright Agency Limited.
Please be aware, that if your painting meets this criteria and you re-sell your painting in the future, a royalty will be payable by you to Copyright Agency Limited.
