Dots & Dashes

Dot painting originated around the 1970's, when Geoffrey Bardon was assigned as an Art Teacher for the children of the people in Papunya, near Alice Springs.

It is ironic that the technique of using dots, that many Western people regard as characteristic of contemporary Central and Western Desert Art was in fact to obscure certain revered knowledge. Artists developed this as a way of obscuring or hiding the meanings of some symbolism from those who were not privy to it.

Here is a collection of paintings using 'Dots & Dashes' from the gallery.
