Thomas Nginjmalakkara Badari is the son of Rhoda and Nangalkbered Badari. Thomas is based in remote Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory and works from the Injalak Arts Centre. This Arts Centre has over 200 active members – artists, weavers and craftspeople from Gunbalanya and surrounding homelands.
Many of the artists use the daily happenings and traditional stories as inspiration for their artworks. In this memorial pole, Thomas depicts the scene of a billabong and three exceptional fish in the rarrk or cross-hatching style.
